i remember being like 11 and asking my dad why he hunts and kills deer and he said “because i think theyre beautiful” and that’s just. that’s just what men are like

Yeah… &?

Is it any different that women seeing cute things & wanting to squish their face?

Is killing different than endearing physical contact? Local man unsure

I really like … many aspects of hunting. And I think animals are beautiful.

What is the point of mounting something like this sad, gross, proof that you will end a beautiful life for no good reason….

image

when you could frame you up a trophy like the photo below !?

image

This takes at least as much skill, and involves all the same wilderness stalking. It proves that you are both brave AND compassionate. There’s no downside to doing this instead.

Imagine you go to somebody’s home, and they have a trophy room filled with beautifully composed close up photos of wolves and deer and boar and eagles and things all over the walls, with a couple camera guns mounted up there too - on one wall is a photo of a standing bear who obviously sees the person taking the photo and it’s been blown up so the bear is life size (that’s why you need that gun-barrel lens, so the quality holds up when you enlarge the pic) The person you are visiting is like, “yeah, I took all these.”

THAT’s impressive. A room full of dead things just means they are weird and gross and pointlessly cruel and proud of it.

^^^

My dad goes out into the woods and takes pictures all the time. He still calls it “hunting” and when he comes home, he literally says “Hey, look at what i shot!” So doing this allows not only for great photos and time with nature, but also an A+ Dad Joke.

It’s very interesting to me that Techno’s main goal for destroying L’Manburg and government is that “power corrupts” as if he isn’t the 2nd most powerful person on the server. It’s almost like he doesn’t realise that the idea of “power corrupts” can be applied to him.

He used his superior strength (with both PVP skills and resources) to destroy L’Manburg and force them essentially back under the rule of Dream. Techno’s ideals are flawed, whether he wants to admit it or not. Techno enjoys anarchism because he benefits from it. Anarchism doesn’t mean that everyones suddenly equal, and it would be stupid to think that. If suddenly all the government ceased to exist, then it would essentially be survival of the fittest. Dream and Techno are powerful (and feared) not because a government gives them that power, but simply because they are. By getting rid of governments like L’Manburg, Techno is essentially widening the gap in power between him and Dream, and everyone else. Dream and Techno remain at the top, and people like Tubbo, Quackity, Fundy, Tommy, etc (who gained a semblance of power being united under L’Manburg) now suddenly are at the bottom.

Think about what we’ve seen with Quackity and Techno. From the wiki: “Quackity fears Techno because of his power and after what he did to him during Minecraft Monday, often unable to even look at him without screaming and disconnecting in panic.”. It is only from the position of VP of L’Manburg that Quackity is able to confront Techno. With that gone, Quackity stands no chance against Techno, and he goes back to being powerless and afraid.

every day i am percieved™️

There is a reason for this though!

The original tweet summarizes it pretty well. Fanfic tends to be popular among certain types of neurodivergent people (aka people most likely to read excessively as a child, and have burnout as an adult) for the same reasons that we tend to hyperfixate–neurochemical signaling (I hope I’m using that phrase correctly). What I mean is, for people who are really dependent on changes in dopamine/serotonin/neurotransmitter levels, who have low levels or wonky neural reward systems (perhaps the most common types of neurodivergence)…people like us rely on dependable external sources of those neurochemicals. In order to function, we spend a lot of our free time trying to level out our brain chemistry using things that can reliably bring us a steady stream of joyful moments (rewards) without costing too much of the mental effort that is already in short supply.

significantly: the investment of reading has to be balanced with a steady “return on investment”–and this return has to start fairly quickly. because again, we don’t have a lot of attention/energy to invest on tiring things. we have perpetual “low batteries” in that regard.

that doesn’t mean these stories are “simple,” or that they lack complexity or value–only that the reward has to come in short regular intervals, and it has to have a low “upfront cost.” these stories are only “easy” to read in the sense that the effort we put into them is rewarded in a timely manner. which is why fanfic stories are so perfectly formulated for neurodivergent readers–they are often beautifully written, but skip a lot of the upfront costs (of introducing new characters, of world-building, of getting the audience emotionally connected to the story elements).

the nature of fanfiction is that the reader has a pre-existing relationship with this world and these characters. that–combined with the shorter average length of fics–means that fan fics very quickly start rewarding the reader in a way that traditional fiction struggles to. that’s not a bad thing! and maybe it’s something more traditionally published writers should be paying attention to.

Fanfic, as a genre, has been uniquely helpful and accessible to many neurodivergent readers who would otherwise struggle to immerse themselves in stories. I’m glad so many of you have found a way to love and enjoy reading again! The important thing is that you are spending time inside stories you love–the way those stories are published or presented to the world is just one detail. The fact that you find joy in the process of reading (or listening!) to stories–that is what matters.
